Hey all,
This may be a repost, sorry if it is. Am running: Dell Inspiron 6400: Intel 945GM Chipset Duo Core 2.33ghz 1Gig DDR2 Ram
I cant get aero working on this system despite the chipset being compatible. Can anyone direct me towards LDDM compatable drivers? If not, is it possible to fool Vista into thinking my card will run it?
Yours Sincerely James Ponting articuno1_au@hotmail.com

If an WDDM driver is not available yet then you cannot get Glass. You cannot "trick" Vista into thinking there is such a driver installed.

I have a Dell Dimension E510 that i've tried bith the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on.
It has the 945G chipset and I'm using the integrated graphics. Now here's where it gets weird.
Vista 64 by default on installation, loads an Intel LDDM graphics driver, and glass works just fine. However the video card is shown in device manager as an unknown device. Running Windows update does not find an appropriate driver.
However, the graphics, including Glass works just fine.
I then decided to try Vista 32. Again, upon initial installation, Vista loaded an Intel LDDM driver and Glass and everything else worked just fine. Again, the video card was marked in device manager as an unknown.
BUT.....
Upon choosing that device in device manager and telling the system to update the driver, it found a graphics driver for the 945G chipset. That got rid of the exclamation mark in device manager, but Glass is no longer an option!. also, the 945g driver does not indicate it's a LDDM or WDDM driver.

If you do a driver rollback do you get Glass back?

Hi,
I have the same system as you basically. There is a beta driver that will give you aero and full glass. It is still available but unsupported in Vista beta 2. To install it, choose to install a driver for the card manually and then uncheck the "only show supported drivers" option. It will be listed as the Intel Lakeport driver. You will get a warning when you install it, ignore it. After you've installed it run the System Performance Rating again, you should get at least a 3 and as soon as you've run it, glass should appear in all its glory. But I warn you the driver is unstable. There's a good reason it's unsupported. Actually the perf is really good on the driver, better than it was with the previous supported Intel driver, but on coming back from hibernate and standby, the video goes crazy, forcing a reboot. If you can live with that, install the driver and enjoy the glass. I can't believe how good it looks on this widescreen display. Hope this works for you.

Actually I hadn't thought of that. Neither did I try to change the driver manually by see if I could pick the Intel LDDM driver from a list of drivers.
That particular system is back running Vista 64 in order to test the 64-bit version. I have Vista 32 on a couple other systems to try that version out.

Yes, Intel Lakeport LDDM or such seems to ring a bell as the video driver installed by default on my Dimension E510 that uses the 945G chipset, and Glass was working just fine.
